Engaging with Equity

Equity members are highly skilled professional artists working across Canada’s live performance sector—including actors, dancers, singers, directors, fight directors, intimacy directors, and stage managers.

Whatever your production, Equity members can help bring it to life.

Agreements & Engagement Policies

Equity negotiates collective agreements with leading theatres, opera houses, and dance companies across Canada, covering a wide range of live performance productions.

For independent, smaller-scale, or artist-driven work, our engagement policies offer flexible options while maintaining professional standards.

Whatever you’re producing, there’s an Equity agreement or engagement policy that can support your work.

How do I find Equity artists for my production?

eDrive

eDrive is Equity’s job board and email list, used to share paid work opportunities in the Canadian live performance industry. It reaches nearly 11,000 artists across the country–both Equity members and non-members.

Engagers can post notices for auditions, stage management positions, or other industry related paid work opportunities.

Availability Lists

Equity can provide contact information for members who have opted into availability lists. To request a list, please email your Business Rep with the details of what you are looking for, including region(s), discipline(s), gender (if applicable), and age range (if applicable)

Self-engaging and members producing their own work

Self-engaging

Self-engaging allows Equity members to work under an Equity contract on productions that would not otherwise fall under Equity’s jurisdiction—for example, performing with an independent company or directing for an amateur organization.

This is most commonly done through Equity’s multidisciplinary Dance • Opera • Theatre (DOT) engagement policy.

Member-Producers

Many Equity members also produce their own work—either collaboratively under policies like the Artist Collective Policy (ACP), or by engaging other members under policies like the INDIE.

When acting as a producer, a member assumes the same responsibilities as any other Engager, in addition to their obligations as an Equity member.

Business Reps

Each Engager is assigned an Equity Business Rep to help ensure the terms of agreements and engagement policies are followed. They support artists under contract and assistant Engagers throughout the engagement process.

If you have questions at any stage, your Business Rep is your first point of contact.
